A Fitzroy woman has confirmed her reusable coffee cup collection has grown to nine, spanning three brands, four colours, and one limited-edition collaboration she "couldn't really justify but also couldn't not buy," despite this having no measurable effect on her actual coffee habits.
"I've got one in my bag, one in the car, two at work, and I still somehow forget all of them, all the time," she said, holding a takeaway cup she'd bought that morning. "This is genuinely embarrassing to say out loud."
The nine cups are kept in a dedicated cupboard shelf, arranged, she admits, "a bit like a display," and are used, by her own estimate, "maybe twice a week, combined."
Asked why she continues to buy new ones, she paused for a long moment.
"I think I like the idea of being the kind of person who has this handled," she said. "The actual logistics of remembering to bring one have nothing to do with it."
